Microsoft PowerPoint Description of 25 Basic Skills



 
 
Create a Presentation
Open the File menu and select New.
Select the Presentation Design tab.

Use a Template
Select and confirm the desired Template.
Select and confirm the desired Auto Layout.
To preview a design template we click on the Icon.
Save a Presentation
Click on the Save button
Enter a name for the new presentation and confirm it.
Close a Presentation
Open the File menu and select Close.
Open a Presentation
Click on the Open button
Select the desired file
Confirm the selection
Apply Design
Click on the Apply Design Button
Select a Template and Confirm the selection.
Enter Text in a Slide
Enter the Title Text in the Title placeholder.
Enter the Subtitle Text in the Subtitle placeholder.
Add a New Slide
Click on the New Slide Button.
Select an Auto Layout for the new slide and confirm it.
Enter Bulleted Text
Select the Bulleted Text Placeholder and enter the first line of text.
Press enter to begin a new line.
Enhance Text
Select the slide that contains the text to be enhanced.
Select the text or text box to be enhanced.
Click inside the box, then click on the border.
Click on the desired text formatting button. Change Font Size
Select the desired text.
Select the desired Font size from the font size dropdown list.
Text Alignment
Select the desired text.
Choose the Left, Right, or Centered Alignment button from the toolbar.
Undo/Redo
To undo an action click the Undo button.
To redo an action clck the Redo button.
Copy Text
Select the text to be copied.
Click on the Copy butotn.
Place the insertion point in the new location.
Click on the Paste button.
Change View
Click on the desired view button.
There are four different ways to view presentations in PowerPoint:
Slide View shows a large view of a single slide.
Outlne View shows the slide text laid out in outline form.
Slide Sorter View shows several small slides at the same time and this allows you to rearrange slides.
Notes Page shows a slide with a special area where you can insert notes about the slide.
Text in Outline View
To insert a new slide and enter text in Outline View:
Place the insertion Point where you want to insert the new slide.
Press the Enter key.
Enter the text for the title.
Press the Enter Key then press Tab to begin entering indented text.
Pressing Shift + Tab would move the entry left to a higher level.
Change Indent Level
Select the entry or entries to be changed.
Click on the promote or demote button to change the indent level. (left and right arrows).
Reorder Outline
To reorder slides in Outline View:
Select the slide Icon.
Drag the slide Icon to the new location.
Delete a Slide
To delete a slide in Slide Sorter View:
Select the slide to be deleted.
Press the delete key.
Expand Slide
To create multiple slides from items on a single slide.
Select a slide to be expanded.
We can select the slide in Slide, Slide Sorter, or Outline View.
From the Tools menu select Expand Slide. SpellCheck
Click on the Spelling button.
When the spelling checker finds a misspelled word select the correct word and click on change.
If the checker finds a word that is spelled correctly, click on Ignore.
Save As
Open the File menu and select Save As.
Enter the new file name and confirm.
Run a Slide Show
Select the slide to begin the show.
Click on the slide Show button.
Click on the left mouse button or press the spacebar to advance the slides.
Office Assistant
Click on the Office Assistant button.
Type the question or subject you want help with.
Click on the Search button.
From the list select the topic you are interested in.
Close the Help window.
Online Help
Open the Help menu and select Contents and Index.
Click on the Index tab.
Type the name of the topic you are interested in.
Click on Display.
To return to the Index Dialog box, click on the Help Topics button.
Close the Help Window.
