Microsoft Excel Description of 25 Intermediate Skills



 
Fill a Range
Enter the starting Value(s) of the Range to be filled.
Select  the cells(s) that contain starting values.
Drag the fill handle over the range to be filled.

Name a Range
Select the Range that is to be named.
Enter Name for the Range in the Name Box on the formula bar.
Press the Enter Key.
Go to a Range
Open the Edit Menu and Select Go To .
Enter the Range Name or Cell Reference to Go to.
Click on O.K. to confirm.
Labels In a Formula
Select the desired cell.
Type an = in the cell to begin the formula.
Use Row and Column Labels instead of Cell References in the Formula.
Enter a Function
Select the desired cell for the formula.
Click on the Paste Function button.
Select the Function Category and Function Name.
Enter the necessary information.
Confirm the operation.
Merge and Center
Select the cell(s).
Click on the Merge and Center Button.
Draw an Object
Click on the Drawing Button to Open the Drawing toolbar.
Select the desired object.
Draw the object in the desired location in the worksheet.
Add a Text Box.
Click on the drawing button, to open the drawing toolbar.
Click on the Text Box button.
Drag the cursor to create the text box.
Type the desired text.
Click outside the text box to deselect it.
Format a Collection
Select the range of cells.
Hold down the Ctrl key.
Select the next range of cells.
Format the selectio9n.
Chart  a collection
Select a range of cells.
Hold down the ctrl key and select the next range(s) of cells.
Click on the chart wizard button and complete the chart wizard.
Add a Comment
Select the desired cell.
Open the shortcut menu by clicking on the right mouse button.
Select Insert  Comment.
Enter the comment and then click outside the cell.
Find a Comment
Select the cell from which to begin the search.
Open the Edit Menu and select Find.
Enter the data to find and any additional search parameters.
From the Look In: box, select Comments.
Close the dialog box.
Create a Chart
Select the chart data.
Click on the Chart Wizard button.
Follow the Chart Wizard and enter the chart title.
Click on Finish.
Change Chart  Type
Click on the chart.
On the chart toolbar open the Chart Type drop-down list.
Select the new Chart Type.
Name a New Sheet
Open the Insert Menu and select Worksheet.
Double-click on the new worksheet name tab.
Type in the new name and confirm.
Insert a Page Break
Open the View Menu and select Page Break Preview.
Select the cell that is below and to the right of the desired location for the Page Break.
Click on the right mouse button to open the shortcut menu and select Page Break
Open the View menu and  select Normal View.
Multiple Windows
Open all the workbooks that you want to use at the same time.
Open the window Menu and click on the Workbook you want to copy the information from .
Select and copy the desired text.
Open the Window Menu and click on the workbook you want to copy information to.
Paste the selection in its new position.
Header and Footer
Open the view menu  and select Header and Footer.
 Select the desired header and footer from the drop-down boxes or create your own custom header or footer.
Click on OK to confirm.
Page Orientation
Open the File Menu and select Page Set-Up.
Click on the Page Tab.
Select  Portrait or Landscape and confirm the dialog box.
Page Margins
Open the File Menu and select Page Set-Up.
Select Margins tab.
Enter the desired Margins and confirm the dialog box.
Scale Worksheet
Open the File Menu and select Page Set-Up
Click on the Page tab.
Enter the number of pages on which we want to print the document and confirm the Dialog Box.
Freeze Panes
areas to be frozen.
Select the cell that is immediately below and to the right of the
Open the Window menu and select Freeze panes.
Cell Fill Color
Select a cell(s) to be filled.
Click the arrow beside the Fill Color button.
Click on the desired color.
Indent Cell Text
Select the cell to be indented.
Click once on the Increase Indent button for each indentation
Create a Template
Open the File Menu and select Save As.
Select the Template as the Save As type.
Type the Filename you want to give to the new template.
